Lower Basilica

Where the tomb of Blessed Mother Teresa Fasce is kept

Nelle fondamenta della Basilica, fin dal 1947, viene ricavata una cripta, poi completamente trasformata e inaugurata il 19 maggio 1988.

The whole is very harmonious; simplicity favours meditation and prayer. Its fine stained glass windows with the Umbrian Augustinian saints, alternated with local landscapes, give the whole a touch of colour and light.

In the right transept there is the chapel of the Eucharistic Miracle and of Blessed Simon of Cascia, placed here by the archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia, Msgr. Antonio Ambrosiano on May 19, 1988. Under the pillars, there is access to the Sala degli ex-voto [Ex-voto Room], which can be visited on request.

In the Lower Basilica there is the tomb of the Servant of God, Blessed Mother Teresa Fasce. Mother Fasce, who was born in Torriglia (in the province of Genoa) in 1881 and died in Cascia on January 18, 1947, dedicated her life to making Saint Rita known, founding the “From the Bees to the Roses” magazine and through tangible works of Christian charity such as the Beehive of Saint Rita.
